Two back-to-back weekends of off-road trips?…don’t remind my wife.

A good friend (also a work colleague) called late last night and was itching to get off the pavement. My wife had already arranged to take our son (11) and a couple of his friends to an escape room, then bring them home for some quality 6th-grader bonding time (online gaming, of course). Her being a playdate wizard gave me an opening to sneak out for a few hours.

We met up at the Starbucks at hwy. 15 and Via Rancho Parkway in Escondido. It had rained a bit the night before so we were hoping muddy trails would provide a bit more challenge. We fueled up and headed to Lake Sutherland.

Of course, I had my loyal backseat navigator.

The trail wasn’t at messy as we’d hoped, but still fun.

The summit was in the clouds. We had a light lunch and enjoyed the “view.”

We wrapped up the trip with a cold beer and late lunch.

Video, unedited, because I ain’t got that much time…

It took 4-5 attempts, but after some careful planning, the obstacle was conquered by the Jeep. Interesting thing – my friend’s Jeep is a hybrid and is oddly quiet when the motor was doing the work. I took an easier route, next time I’ll give this one a shot.

And a minute and forty-four seconds of us doing laps.

And of course, no trip with a Jeep owner is complete without the Jeep guy doing what Jeep guys do.
